Prof. Dr. Irwandi Jaswir, internationally recognized as the “Halal Scientist,” is the recipient of the prestigious King Faisal International Prize 2018. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology and Human Nutrition from Bogor Agricultural University, Indonesia, and completed his Master’s and PhD in Food Chemistry and Biochemistry at Universiti Putra Malaysia, with part of his doctoral research conducted at the University of British Columbia, Canada. He later pursued postdoctoral studies at the National Food Research Institute, Tsukuba, Japan.
Throughout his career, Prof. Irwandi has dedicated himself to advancing Halal Science in areas such as halal authentication, the development of rapid detection methods for non-halal contamination, halal food and cosmetics, and global halal standards. His tireless contributions include over 190 scientific papers, 35 book chapters, six patents, and more than 60 international awards, making a profound impact on the global halal industry—currently valued at over USD 3 trillion.
Today, Prof. Irwandi is extending his influence through a new collaboration with HTGlobal Consulting. Together, they are embarking on a strategic endeavor to launch the Certified Professional Halal Butcher Program, accredited by OTHM UK. This pioneering initiative is tailored for TVET students, equipping them with internationally recognized certification, practical skills, and guaranteed job placement in the halal industry.
The program marks a significant step toward advancing halal practices worldwide, ensuring the industry continues to expand with integrity, quality, and global recognition. By bridging education, certification, and employment, this collaboration strengthens the halal talent pipeline while supporting Malaysia’s vision to remain at the forefront of the global halal economy.
